Mike Randall is reporting for the Times Herald-Record the five Hudson River bridges under the control of the New York State Bridge Authority will begin conversion to cashless tolling this summer. The switch over will be rolled out in phases, beginning in July at the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge. That span already had some structural elements for cashless tolling installed during the current deck replacement project. The conversion will begin after the July 4 holiday weekend. An exact date will be announced later. The transition to cashless tolling on the authority's four other spans — the Bear Mountain, Mid-Hudson, Kingston-Rhinecliff, and Rip Van Winkle bridges — will start in subsequent months and is expected to be completed at all five bridges by the spring of 2022. Vehicles with E-ZPass tags are automatically charged under the new system, while those without E-ZPass tags will have their license plate image captured, and a toll bill will be generated and mailed to the registered owner.
