Sarah Trafton reports for Columbia-Greene Media that last week Town of Cairo officials authorized a committee to find another location for a senior center after a recent state inspection revealed mold, exposed wires, and mice in the Acra Community Center. That building, owned by the town of Cairo on Old Route 23, has been the senior center since the 1980s. “That building’s got its problems,” Greene County Legislator William Lawrence, who represents Cairo, said. “The insulation is bad. There’s wetlands in the back. Not much parking.” Lawrence would like to move the senior center to the former Cedar Terrace on Main Street. Town Supervisor John Coyne says he prefers the center to be downtown rather than out in Acra. There are other senior centers in Catskill, Athens, Coxsackie, and Jewett in Greene County.
