Christmas Day COVID-19 local numbers get worse

On Dec. 25, New York's COVID-19 tracker website reported that 53 people tested positive for coronavirus in Greene County Dec. 24. Columbia County reported 35 positive tests Dec. 24. The Daily Freeman reported that Dutchess County reported two more deaths related to COVID-19 on Dec. 25, with 191 testing positive Dec. 24 according the state's webtracker. Ulster County had 77 new coronavirus cases, according to the state website on Dec. 25. Rensselaer County had 111 new cases according to the state website, and Albany County another 229 new cases. It was the fifth day in a row that Albany County's new case count exceeded 200. There were also three more deaths in Albany County. “My heart breaks for the families who have lost loved ones to COVID-19, and it’s even more difficult when it happens during the holidays,” Albany County Executive Dan McCoy said. “Again, my message continues to be the same as we celebrate Christmas and Kwanzaa. Please stay home and celebrate with members of your immediate families who live with you to stop the spread of this virus.” From 9-11 a.m. on January 5 the Columbia County Department of Health holds a COVID-19 drive-thru testing clinic at the Columbia County Firefighter Training Center, 50 Grandinetti Drive, Commerce Park, in Ghent.
