County officials stop Pine Haven design work

Joe Gentile reported in the Register Star the Columbia County Board of Supervisors Chairman Pat Grattan, announced Tues, Apr. 8, design work has been suspended on the new Pine Haven Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. Grattan said county officials are considering several options, but did not elaborate. Also on Tuesday, Bruce Gendron, regional administrator of Centers for Specialty Care Group toured the 120-bed facility, accompanied by members of the county's Pine Have sub-committee. He described Pine Haven as a slightly dated, but overall well-run facility whose residents are well cared for. Critics, including Philmont Mayor Clarence Speed, fear the consequences for Pine Haven residents and employees if the county sells the nursing home to a private, for-profit company. Grattan told the paper the county has made no commitment either way and called Gendron's group a great resource. Read the full story in the Register Star.
