New York state ethics investigation about ethics

Nov 15, 2019 12:32 am
Joseph Spector reports in the Democrat and Chronicle that a state ethics board member resigned after claiming that information was leaked about a vote over an ethics charge against an associate of Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The allegation first was reported in the Times Union, that Cuomo was allegedly briefed on the behind-closed-doors vote by the state Joint Commission on Public Ethics in January about whether to investigate Cuomo’s former top aide Joseph Percoco. Cuomo's office and other state officials have rejected the allegations, and the state inspector general's office could not verify the allegations. But state officials would not say whether Cuomo or Assembly Speaker Carl E. Heastie were interviewed by the state inspector general's office as part of that investigation. Joint Commission on Public Ethics board member Julie Garcia said she was contacted after the vote by a staff member to Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie. “I was being told the governor knew how I voted in executive session, even though I was unable to confirm whether or not the information was accurate,” Garcia said. JCOPE spokesperson Walt McClure said, "We have since been advised that the allegation could not be substantiated." Read more about this story in the Democrat and Chronicle.
