Liz Montgomery is reporting for Porcupine Soup the sheriff's offices in Albany and Greene counties, as well as the New York State Police, responded September 15 to a call from a Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk School District school bus. The bus had pulled over on the side of the road in West Coxsackie after a student allegedly claimed to have a weapon. According to the Albany County Sheriff’s Office, an eight-year-old student said he had a gun and was going to shoot someone on the bus. Another student on the bus told the driver about it, authorities said. RCS Superintendent Brian Bailey said the driver immediately notified transportation dispatch. “Our school resource officers and emergency services were also notified. Police arrived on the scene and investigated. There were no weapons found on or around the school bus,” Bailey said. He said the school will address this issue through the student code of conduct. Bailey acknowledged the large police presence that responded to the threat and noted that such incidents are taken seriously. The student involved will not be immediately returning to class.
