NY judge tosses Trump's lawsuit to block release of his financial records

Emily Saul is reporting for the New York Post a federal judge in Manhattan October 7, dismissed the lawsuit filed by President Donald Trump to block the New York District Attorney's Office from obtaining his financial records. Trump sued in September to stop enforcement of a subpeona for eight years of his personal and corporate documents, including tax tax returns. The subpoena was obtained as part of a criminal grand jury investigation. Trump's legal counsel argued that he was protected by total immunity while in office. “This Court cannot endorse such a categorical and limitless assertion of presidential immunity,” federal Judge Victor Marrero wrote in a 75-page ruling. “The Court cannot square a vision of presidential immunity that would place the President above the law with the text of the Constitution.” Trump immediately filed an emergency appeal with the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, asking that the appellate court reinstate the lawsuit and issue a temporary restraining order to stop the DA from executing the subpeona.
