Local sports stars shine farther

May 01, 2019 12:03 am
Several stories of local sports efforts gone national: Helen Rose Schneider, of the Altamont Enterprise, Tweets that "Westerlo native Luke McDermott tallied three points along with two others to lead the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team past Norway, 10-0 [April 30], to close preliminary-round play at the 2019 Para Ice Hockey World Championship. He was also named the U.S. Player of the Game." Also Tim Martin of the Register-Star writes on Facebook, "In nine games this season, Ichabod Crane pitchers Isabella Milazzo and Marissa Wheeler have allowed a total of two earned runs. The Riders' dynamic duo has struck out 121, walked 11 and have a combined earned run average of 0.24 in 58 innings. Oh, and they've thrown a total of three perfect games. Not too shabby." Martin also reported on Facebook that "Ichabod Crane graduate Calista Phippen improved to 16-3 with four strong innings of relief in Marist's 5-4 victory over Rider in the second game of the [April 29] MAAC doubleheader. Phippen struck out four, walked one, and allowed two runs and three hits as the Red Foxes improved to 28-19. Marist goes to Lafayette for a doubleheader on May 1."
