Aliya Schneider and Natasha Vaughn are updating for Columbia-Greene Media the results of the November 3 local elections. In Kinderhook, incumbent Deborah Johnson is ahead of challenger Melissa Miller in the race to fill the open seat on the town board. Johnson leads Miller, 2,318 to 1,539. In the Copake Town Board race, Andrew Fisher leads Jeffrey Judd, 721 to 649. Paulette Bonanno, of the Working Families Party, dropped out of the race before Election Day, but received 76 votes. Christian Kersten is leading Robina Ward for the Hillsdale Town Supervisor’s post, 526 to 357. So far, the 21,268 in-person ballots and 6,455 early ballots are included in the totals. Left to be counted are the 7,536 absentee ballots received so far. The Board of Elections will continue accepting absentees for seven days after the election, as long as they are postmarked November 3, said county Republican Election Specialist John Joseph Ciampoli [CHAM-polee]. The county has 49,817 registered voters, with an in-person voter turnout rate of 55.6 percent. The Board of Elections does not know when official winners will be announced, Columbia County Republican Commissioner Kelly A. Miller-Simmons said. “It’s still early,” she said.
