Local rallies decry possible loss of ACA
Brian Hubert is reporting in the Daily Freeman more than 100 people turned out in Kingston Sun., Jan. 15, to protest the intention of president-elect Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans to repeal the Affordable Care Act. The protest was held outside 721 Broadway, the district office of newly elected U.S. Rep. John Faso. The event was organized by Move Forward New York, which was founded by Debra Clinton following the 2016 election. Clinton said she organized the event to show the importance of the Affordable Care Act, and express concerns about any plan to repeal it without a replacement plan. Clinton said, “We’re asking him [Faso] to not vote to take it way.” Daniel Zuckerman is reporting in the Register-Star a rally in support of saving the ACA was also held in Hudson, Sunday afternoon. Various speakers spoke about how 24 million Americans, including those with pre-existing conditions, would lose their healthcare coverage if the legislation is repealed. Cyndy Hall, one of the event organizers, said approximately 7,500 people in Columbia County, and more than 5,000 people in Greene County now have health insurance because of expanded Medicaid, Medicare and the Affordable Care Act.
