Richard Moody is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the Columbia Economic Development Corporation is soliciting bids from consultants to determine the feasibility of a creating a trail along the portion of the Boston to Albany rail corridor that runs from Hudson to Philmont. The CEDC received funds for the feasibility study in late 2017, from the Hudson River Valley Greenway, the organization responsible for constructing the Albany-Hudson Electric Trail, a 35-mile bicycle and pedestrian rail-trail path that will run through Rensselaer and Columbia counties. CEDC is offering $18,500 in cash to a consultancy to help with the study, and the remainder of the cost would be absorbed by the development agency and the Columbia Land Conservancy. “With the [Albany-Hudson] Electric Trail [project] residents are concerned about the trail running behind their properties and I am sure there will be more of the same with this trail,” Columbia County Board of Supervisors Chairman Matt Murell said. “My other concern is about who will maintain the trail, because there is a cost associated with that for the towns.” Murrell said he has to know more about it before he can form an opinion. The potential path for the Boston-Albany trail is not cut and dried, and that is the reason the CEDC is conducting a feasibility study, CEDC President and CEO F. Michael Tucker said.
