Oct 24, 2019 11:47 pm
Diane Valden reports for the Columbia Paper that after Nov. 5 elections, the Town of Copake will have a new supervisor, town clerk, town justice, and at least one new town councilperson. Jeanne Mettler, on the Democrat and the Working Families lines, and Kelly Miller-Simmons, on the Republican, Conservative, and Independence party lines, are running for supervisor in the southeastern Columbia County town, with Jeff Nayer is stepping down after eight years in the position. Town Clerk/Tax Collector Larry Proper has been in the town offices since 1986, but is retiring with only Lynn Connolly on the ballot to take his place. Two newcomers -- Julie Cohen and Paulette Bonanno on the Democrat and Working Families lines -- and incumbent Stanley “Stosh” Gansowski and former board member Terry Sullivan, both on the Republican, Independence, and Conservative party lines, are vying for two open town board seats. And Jeffrey Judd and Hilarie Thomas are in the mix for town justice as current Justice John Spencer is not running again. Judd is on the Democrat and Working Families lines, and Thomas is running on the Republican, Independence, and Conservative party lines.
