David Lombardo reports for the Albany Times Union that New York's Public Campaign Financing Commission meets for the first time Aug. 21. The commission is empowered to radically overhaul election financing, but will only discuss organizational matters at this first meeting at 1 p.m. in New York City. There will not be any public comment during the meeting. The commission could authorize up to $100 million annually in public funds, but must make its binding recommendations by Dec. 1. The group could also end fusion voting, which allows Democrats and Republicans to also run on multiple other ballot lines, such as the Working Families, Conservative, Independence, and Green parties. The Working Families and Conservative parties are challenging that proposal in court. Read more about this story in the Albany Times Union.
