Many arrests at fracked-gas plant in Dutchess County

Nov 19, 2019 12:37 am
Mid-Hudson News reports that at least 29 protesters were arrested Nov. 16 taking action against the use of fracked gas to produce electricity at the Cricket Valley Energy Center in Dutchess County. The protest forced construction workers building the plant to leave. Lee Ziesche, from the Resist CVE activist group, said the construction of the 1,100 megawatt fracked gas power plant is almost complete. He says the plant will emit 279 tons of nitrogen oxides, 570 tons of carbon monoxide, more than 60 tons of sulfuric acid pollution, and six million tons of greenhouse gasses. Bill Kish, from the Stop Cricket Valley group, said, “Bringing new fossil fuel plants like Cricket Valley online now makes no sense and only sets New York further back, reducing the likelihood that we’ll meet our ambitious goals while damaging our community’s health and our already stressed ecosystems.” Read more about this story at Mid-Hudson News.
