The Troy Record reports that Troy Mayor Patrick Madden waited five days to announce he tested positive for COVID-19. He tested positive on Dec. 22, and made that public Dec. 27. “Earlier last week, I tested positive for COVID-19 after exhibiting mild symptoms consistent with the virus," Madden said in an emailed statement. "I am currently quarantined consistent with health protocols, and will continue to do so in compliance with guidance from state and local health professionals. This is a reminder of how easily coronavirus can be transmitted between individuals, even while wearing a mask, social distancing, and washing hands. My symptoms continue to improve, and I look forward to a speedy recovery.” Madden was not the only one locally testing positive for coronavirus. The state webtracker reported Dec. 27 that Columbia County had 18 new positive cases on Dec. 26. Greene County reported 20 new cases, while Rensselaer County reported 73 new COVID-19 cases and one more death. Albany County reported 140 new cases, the first time in six days that Albany County did not top 200 new cases. Dutchess County reported 161 new cases and two deaths, and Ulster County reported 52 new cases. With the holidays, all those totals may be artificially lower, as far fewer tests are typically given on weekends and holidays.
