Greene Co. applies for state ATI funds

Sarah Trafton is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media Greene County lawmakers have approved a resolution authorizing an application for Alternatives to Incarceration funding in the amount of just over $5,800. The annual application to the state Division of Criminal Justice Services is based on the number of people placed in the community service program administered by the probation department, as well as the number of people who finish the program. The state’s target numbers call for the department to place at least 35 people and to have 26 people complete the program, Probation Director Alan Frisbee said. With a 17 percent placement rate and 38 percent completion rate, Frisbee said it was unlikely the county would reach the state’s goal. “We’re not going to hit that target unless there is a drastic increase in [the] next three months,” he said. District Attorney Joseph Stanzione said his department is looking to place as many people in the program as possible. “We have plenty of community-service opportunities,” Stanzione said. “It’s a matter of finding the right candidates.”
