The Cairo-Durham school district family is mourning the death of longtime elementary school teacher, Kay Sutton. Sutton served the district for 30 years. In a letter to parents and guardians, Superintendent Anthony J. Taibi and Cairo-Durham Elementary School Principal, Christopher Stein, reported that Sutton had passed away following a battle with chronic illness, Taibi said. "Her impact spanned generations and many in the Cairo-Durham community have either directly or indirectly benefited from her as a teacher. She was a dedicated educator who made a difference in the lives of so many students. This is a great loss for our school community," he wrote. The district is providing support for students and staff. The school library will serve as a counseling center and therapy dogs will be be available, as needed. "Mrs. Sutton will be dearly missed.
