Mar 26, 2019 3:00 pm
The Cairo-Durham school district family is mourning the death of longtime elementary school teacher, Kay Sutton. Sutton served the district for 30 years. In a letter to parents and guardians, Superintendent Anthony J. Taibi and Cairo-Durham Elementary School Principal, Christopher Stein, reported that Sutton had passed away following a battle with chronic illness, Taibi said. "Her impact spanned generations and many in the Cairo-Durham community have either directly or indirectly benefited from her as a teacher. She was a dedicated educator who made a difference in the lives of so many students. This is a great loss for our school community," he wrote. The district is providing support for students and staff. The school library will serve as a counseling center and therapy dogs will be be available, as needed. "Mrs. Sutton will be dearly missed. Our deepest sympathies go out to the Sutton family and those whose lives she touched," Taibi wrote. Read Taibi and Stein's full letter at Cairo-Durham [dot] org.
