State Senate now on for Rensselaer County water hearings too

Jul 09, 2016 12:09 am

Casey Seiler in Capitol Confidential reports that the New York State Senate will also hold hearings this fall about the poisoned water in Rensselaer County, including one in Hoosick Falls. Republican Majority Leader John Flanagan said the hearings would allow the Senate, “to explore the sources of water contamination, examine state and federal oversight issues, and determine how we can prevent this from happening in the future. … It goes without saying that we welcome the opportunity to partner with the Assembly to maximize the focus on this important issue.” Flanagan and State Senator Kathy Marchione (R-Halfmoon), who represents parts of Columbia and Rensselaer counties, previously resisted hearings but earlier in the week the State Assembly announced hearings, and a U.S. Congressional committee opened an investigation into the water quality in upstate New York. On July 8, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand held a public forum on the issue in Hoosick Falls. Read the full story in Capitol Confidential.
