Feb 22, 2018 6:45 am

Richard Moody is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the Columbia County Board of Supervisors February 14, authorized the purchase of a 6.5-acre parcel of land adjacent to the county airport for $115,000 from the Colarusso family. There are no official plans to develop the property, located on Route 9H next to the airport runway. In addition to approving the purchase, the board issued a negative declaration for the state environmental review, as well. “The county has had its eye on the property for a long time, from what I understand. It will serve as a buffer zone for the runway right now,” said Stuyvesant Town Supervisor Ronald Knott, who offered the resolution. “Just in case someone else buys property adjacent to the runway.” In addition to the $115,000 purchase price, the county will also pay $4,000 for an appraisal of the land. The funds for the purchase will come out of the county budget, not borrowed. The county eventually intends to be reimbursed by the Federal Aviation Administration for the purchase, Knott said.
