As a licensed wildlife rehabilitator and founder of Friends of the Feathered & Furry Wildlife Center in Hunter, Barbara Runyan follows animal trends closely. Lately, she has seen more woodchucks, chipmunks, and red foxes, and explains that last summer's storms associated with Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee are to blame. Hudson woodchucks are getting national and international attention for their flag-stealing abilities, and a pair have moved under the deck at WGXC's Acra studio at Wave Farm. Runyan was a guest with host Joan Geitz (who has her own woodchuck problem in downtown Cairo) on "Conversations on a Tightrope" Tue., July 10 on WGXC 90.7-FM. Click here to listen to the full show. Click here to play a short excerpt with Runyan describing how the storms last summer affected area animals.
