Hudson's Galvan Field vandalized

Sep 30, 2020 6:00 am
Bill Williams is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the Benjamin Bomber Murrell Hudson Little League field in Hudson was vandalized over the past weekend, according to Police Chief L. Edward Moore. Vandals shredded a batting cage, caused structural damage attempting to break into a shed and ripped down signs, Moore said. The bases were ripped out of the field and thrown into the woods, garbage was strewn all over the field and parking barriers were ripped up and tossed on the field, said George Duntz, Hudson Little League coach, secretary and board member. “The Little League is a nonprofit and can’t afford to replace items if they are destroyed,” Duntz said. “The batting cage alone is worth $1,000.” Duntz said the damage to Galvan Field on Hudson Avenue took place between September 25 at 10 p.m. and September 27, at 11 a.m. The damage was discovered by the coaches for the Columbia Clippers when they arrived Sunday morning to prepare the field for a game. The Clippers are the only organization using the field this year. Due to the amount of damage, the incident may be investigated as a felony, Moore said. Police patrols in that area have been stepped up in response to the vandalism, he said. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
