In this era of melting glaciers and looming extinctions, the Athens Cultural Center presents a multimedia exploration of the many meanings of ice in history, popular culture and the artists' imagination. Curated by Carrie Feder, the show is a visual examination of diverse artifacts and imagery relating to ice in all its forms: Polar exploration, the ice industry, sports, utilitarian products, advertising, literature, decorative objects and the environment. Thirteen artists, all with Hudson Valley connections, will present their own interpretations of ice. Artists include: Nora Adelman, Kirsten Bates, Bob Braine, Randall Evans, Jenny Feder, Ruth Hardinger, Kahn & Selesnick, Mathias Kessler, Ellen Kozak, Claudia McNulty, Christy Rupp, Sam Sebren and Hudson Talbott. The opening, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., includes iced refreshment and a short presentation of ice related readings and songs. Gallery is open 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sat. and Sun., through Aug. 10.
