Mid-Hudson Library System first to be certified sustainable

The Daily Freeman is reporting the Mid-Hudson Library system has announced it is the first public library system to be certified through the Sustainable Libraries Certification Program. According to a statement about the certification, “The Mid-Hudson Library System has addressed issues related to policy, facility operations, technology, and service and program design, all with an eye toward environmental sustainability, social equity, and economic feasibility.” The grant-funded Library of Local program offers participating libraries collections of books, audio-visual materials, tools, seeds, and programming that not only fosters connections amongst one another but also organizes around climate adaption work. The Library of Local program was created in partnership with Partners for Climate Action Hudson Valley. The Sustainable Libraries Certification Program was developed to assist libraries, including public, academic and school librarians to make better choices on behalf of the local and global community, the news release said.
