Jan 08, 2019 3:15 pm
Sarah Trafton is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the Catskill Central School District will present the details of its proposed $40.8 million capital project during the first of several meetings, Tue., Jan. 8. The proposal features improvements to district classrooms, including additional spaces designed for collaborative project-based learning, plus improvements to buildings, security controls, roads, parking lots and athletic fields. A new science, technology, engineering and math lab will be constructed in the existing gym at the middle school. “A new gymnasium addition will be added to the middle school, as the existing gym is not large enough for classes or athletic competitions,” Superintendent Ronel Cook said. District residents will be asked to vote on the project Feb. 12. Additional forums and meetings will be held to review the capital project throughout the month of January, including two Board of Education meetings on Jan. 16 and Jan. 30, as well as a superintendent's forum on Jan. 22. The proposal was developed based on input from staff, students and community members, as well as a Building Condition Survey conducted in 2017. The project's total price tag is $40,795,000. The district hired Bryan Manning of BBS Architects, Landscape Architects and Engineers to lead the project task force and U. W. Marx Construction Company as the construction manager. Information about the project and the full meeting schedule can be found at CatskillCSD [dot] org. The meeting tonight (Tue., Jan. 8) will be held at 6 p.m. in the middle school auditorium.
