Andrew Cuomo said Sept. 28 that State Police will increase patrols at synagogues and other religious centers in New York for the Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur holidays. Rosh Hashanah began at sunset Sept. 29, and ends Tuesday, Oct. 1, marks the start of the Jewish New Year 5780. Yom Kippur begins in the evening of October 8, and ends the next evening. “We will not allow the cowards who contributed to the recent rash of hateful acts against the Jewish community and other groups to intimidate or divide us,” Cuomo said. The Southern Poverty Law Center "Hate Map" currently lists 47 hate groups in New York state, but only one in the Hudson Valley. That is a white nationalist group called "The Right Stuff" in Hopewell Junction, in Dutchess County. Read more about this story at New York State of Politics.
