Business Insider reports that Apple has a patent for technology that automatically scans songs streaming online to edit out any swear words in the lyrics. The patent, named "Management, Replacement and Removal of Explicit Lyrics during Audio Playback" was filed by Apple in September 2014, according to Business Insider, which says Apple could replace so-called swear words with a beeping noise, or with non-explicit lyrics on streaming music or in audio books. Apple's Beats 1 online radio station already only plays non-explicit edits of songs. The patent does not explain if the technology could be used by other groups, such as governments, to change political messages in songs or stories.
