No public hearing for Bosque development yet

Andrea Macko is reporting for Porcupine Soup the developers of a controversial housing subdivision in Cornwallville will have to wait a little longer for their proposal to get a public hearing. Bosque Development of Hudson submitted its plan to the town of Durham in November, calling for the subdivision of 95 acres that border Strong Road and Cornwallville Road. The project includes the construction of 12 new homes and a farming operation. Scott Ouimet, a senior civil engineer with Kaaterskill Associates of Cairo, on behalf of Bosque, made a presentation at the public meeting of the Durham Town Board on June 1. Ouimet said the design team had done a lot of work updating the plans since its last appearance before the board. “The subdivision plans have been revised to incorporate a lot of the comments we have heard to date from the community,” he said. Ouimet requested a public hearing be scheduled. Since the details of the project were disclosed, public comment has been abundant — and largely in opposition to the development. Ouimet's request was turned down because four days before the meeting, Kaaterskill Associates submitted the updated plans to the town that included nearly 1,000 pages of information. Town Supervisor Shawn Marriott said four days was not a sufficient period of time for the board and its engineering firm for review the submission. “...I think I speak for the board when I say we are not having a public hearing until we get to that point,” said Marriott. Dozens of “No Subdivision” lawn signs are posted town wide. Concerns expressed by community members range from the environmental and traffic impact, to the impact the development will have on the historic character of the hamlet.
