Report: Cuomo's relatives got COVID-19 tests from top health officials

Mar 25, 2021 6:33 am

Brendan J. Lyons reports for the Times Union that officials at the state Department of Health were told last year by Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker to prioritize coronavirus testing on the governor's relatives and influential people with ties to the administration, "according to three people with direct knowledge of the matter." Cuomo's brother, his mother, and at least one of his sisters were tested by top health department officials, some several times according to the report. Dr. Eleanor Adams, an epidemiologist who graduated from Harvard Medical School and became a special adviser to Zucker in August tested Cuomo's brother Chris at his residence on Long Island, the story says. Rick Cotton, the executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and his wife, and Patrick J. Foye, head of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, also received tests from high-level health officials. But another Cuomo official said, "It's being a little bit distorted with like a devious intent. ... We made sure to test people they believed were exposed.... All of this was being done in good faith in an effort to trace the virus." Read more about this story in the Times Union.
