New Baltimore board turns critical eye on accountant

W.T. Eckert is reporting in The Daily Mail how the ongoing Town of Stockport fiscal management scandal has impacted the Town of New Baltimore. Questions around CPA Brian Fitzgerald's performance were raised during a recent meeting of the Town Board. Brian Fitzgerald is the town's accountant and bookkeeper. He is also the nephew of Stockport's former accountant, Mark Fitzgerald. An independent audit of the town's books uncovered a $250,000 shortfall in the general fund. Mark Fitzgerald left the town's employ shortly after the audit was initiated in July. While the two men own separate companies, at times they "back each other up," according to New Baltimore Town Supervisor Susan O'Rorke. Brian Fitzgerald has strongly urged New Baltimore to conduct an independent audit, but that may be cost prohibitive, O'Rorke said. The board agreed it was time to put out a Request for Proposals for bookkeeping and accounting services, and formed a committee to move the process forward. Read the full story in The Daily Mail.
