Protests, from both sides, will fill Hudson Valley streets this weekend

The Conservative Facebook page "Columbia County Morning News" posted video June 18 of competing protests in Kinderhook. In the clip protesters can be heard chanting "Black Lives Matter" while other protesters chant "Blue Lives Matter." Lance Wheeler also posted video of the competing protests, which showed fewer "blue" protesters than those on team "black." PLAY EXCERPT OF KINDERHOOK PROTESTS HERE.There are many protests scheduled for this weekend, most centered around the Juneteenth holiday that has been officially declared in Hudson, Albany, Troy, and New York State. There are events this weekend in Catskill, Hudson, Beacon, Kingston, Chatham, Albany, Troy, Newburgh, Guilderland, Potsdam, North Rockland, Highland, Ellenville, and Putnam County. In Albany there are three demonstrations June 19, a "March to the Capital" at 1 p.m., and another event at 4:30 p.m. at Lark St. and Clinton Ave., and a "Roll With Black Lives" at 5 p.m. at the Madison Ave. skate park. The Guilderland event is at 5 p.m. at 2080 Western Avenue. Troy and Beacon also each hold Juneteenth evening events. The Troy Juneteenth Festival is at 6 p.m. along the Troy riverfront, and the Beacon Juneteenth Celebration March/Protest begins at 6:30 p.m. at Pohill Park. There's another Albany action on June 20 at noon at South Pearl Street. The Catskill and Hudson protest is at 4 p.m. June 20, with groups planning to meet on both sides of the Rip Van Winkle Bridge and walk across to the middle. The Chatham Black Lives Matter action is at 5:30 p.m. at 5 Depot Square on Saturday. On June 21 there is a pro-police rally at noon in New Paltz along Main St. between the Tops market and the post office. There is also a Black Lives Matter protest at 4 p.m. in Ellenville at Liberty Square.
