Jul 21, 2015 6:37 am
Will Brunelle is reporting at Capital New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s 125-station weather monitoring system received construction approval from the Federal Emergency Management Agency on Mon., Jul. 20. The agency decision provided the go-ahead for the first 19 sites. The remaining 106 stations are expected to be located and constructed by 2016. Six of the first 19 sites will be on SUNY campuses. The other 13 will be located at community colleges, private farms and, in Warren County, at a Starbucks property. In 2014, Cuomo proposed the creation of what he called the nation's best weather-monitoring system, even more robust than the National Weather Service. The stations, deployed around the state, will automatically relay current conditions on wind speed, precipitation, temperature and pressure. Read the full story at Capital New York.
