Hero mail carrier credited with saving customer's life
David Lee is reporting in The Columbia Paper Tab Eigenbrodt, the longtime rural mail carrier for the East Chatham Post Office, last month was presented with an award for heroism by Albany District officials. During his appointed rounds, Eigenbrodt noticed one of his customers had not picked up their mail for several days. “I have people who might leave their mail for a month, but this was really unusual for this person. They would usually be in the doorway waiting for their mail,” he said. After three days, Eigenbrodt knew something was wrong and went to the neighbor's house to find out what they knew. The neighbor had a key, opened the house and found the person lying unconscious on the floor, where they had been for days. The mail carrier's actions were credited for saving the person's life. Eigenbrodt is no stranger to commendations -- in 2017, he was the recipient of the Million Mile Award, for having driven one million accident-free miles to deliver the mail.
