Natasha Vaughn is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media first-term Republican Kinderhook Town Board member Sally Hogan has been upset in her bid for re-election in November. At its caucus on June 5, the Kinderhook GOP denied Hogan the nomination, saying they were moving in another direction. Committee chair Deborah Smith refused to disclose the actual caucus vote and said she had little to say about Hogan’s ouster. “I want to thank her for her years of service to the town,” Smith said. Hogan said she received 51 votes, but another 30 people, who would have voted for her, were late. They did not understand that a caucus functions differently than an election, she said. Hogan was a controversial figure after several residents took issue with Hogan’s social media posts. In April, Hogan wrote on Facebook, “New York should ban Excelsior Pass, masks, Democrats. Open New York Now!” At a full board meeting last month, residents addressed the need for elected officials to serve all constituents, not just the members of one particular party. More than 100 Republicans attended the caucus this weekend. The committee nominated Timothy Ooms, incumbent deputy supervisor and board member, for town supervisor. For the two board positions, the committee nominated incumbent Debbie Johnson and Sean Casey. Johnson is an incumbent board member. She was first appointed to fill a one-year term left by Patsy Leader when she was elected supervisor. Johnson served on the board from 2001 to 2009 and had been deputy supervisor from 2007 to 2009. Casey is a new candidate for the town board.
