Hudson Valley Democrats vote contempt for Meadows
On Dec. 14 the U.S. House voted 222-208 to "find Mark Randall Meadows in contempt of Congress for refusal to comply with a subpoena duly issued by the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the United States Capitol." Meadows was chief of staff for President Donald Trump, who incited a coup attempting to throw out election results that did not suit him. Meadows wrote a book detailing his role in that coup, and began turning over documents and agreeing to testify before Trump signaled disapproval, and Meadows withdrew cooperation. All three Democrats in the Hudson Valley -- Antonio Delgado, Paul Tonko, and Sean Maloney -- voted for the contempt charge, while Republican Elise Stefanik voted against. Only two Republicans -- Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger -- voted that Congressional subpoenas should be enforced, the contempt issue. Now it is up to Attorney General Merrick Garland over whether to indict Meadows. Former Trump advisor Steve Bannon was indicted recently for his failure to comply with a subpoena issued by the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 breach of the U.S. Capitol.
