Part-time city workers could get a raise

Oct 16, 2018 3:30 pm
Amanda Purcell is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the Hudson Common Council is expected to vote October 16, on increasing the hourly wage for the city's part-time employees to $15 an hour. The point of the initiative is to get ahead of the state-mandated minimum wage requirements and develop a clear policy to allow for fair and equal wages across the board, City Treasurer Heather Campbell said. “The city should be a leader in establishing a proper and just minimum wage,” Common Council President Thomas DePietro said. The lowest recorded hourly rate for city departments is about $10.50 to $11 an hour, DePietro said. The minimum wage in Greene and Columbia counties is scheduled to increase to $11.10 on Dec. 31; $11.80 on Dec. 31, 2019; and $12.50 on Dec. 31, 2020. About 30 part-time city employees will be affected if the resolution is approved, Campbell said. The resolution will also establish a pay-increase policy, which includes a 50-cent increase per hour for every five years of service, retroactive to January 1.
