May 09, 2018 8:00 am

Richard Moody is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the Columbia County Board of Supervisors will vote May 9, on a resolution to approve the issuance of $9.78 million in bonds to pay for its portion of the Columbia-Greene Community College capital project, for bridge and road work, as well as improvements to the new fire training center. The money borrowed will be repaid over 30 years, said Columbia County Controller Ronald Caponera. Caponera said he will not know the tax impact of the bond until new interest rates are released. The bond includes $5 million for the college's renovation project, $2 million for bridge work, and $500,000 for road paving. The county also intends to use $2.25 million for work needed on the building it purchased in the Gerald R. Simons Commerce Park in Ghent, the home of the county's new fire-training center. Also at the May 9 meeting, the full board will vote on entering into a contract with the Galvan Foundation to house the county's homeless in the newly renovated Galvan Civil Motel on Route 9 in Greenport. Under that agreement, the county would pay $85 per person, per night, for emergency housing. The county Board of Supervisors will meet 7:30 p.m., Wed., May 9, at 401 State Street in Hudson.
