Live chickens not allowed in Hudson

Jun 22, 2013 12:02 am
Nathan Mayberg in the Register-Star reports that on Fri., June 22 Hudson Mayor William Hallenbeck vetoed a Common Council law that would have allowed live chickens in Hudson. In a statement, Hallenbeck wrote, “I realize that there are some individuals who want to be able to raise chickens (hens) of their own for some of the health and other benefits provided. Such as eggs being a good source of nutrition, chickens providing companionship, chickens eating insects, and chickens helping to build communities. On the other hand, I realize the concerns of residents who are equally concerned about noise, odor, disease, slaughter, chickens running wild and property value declines.” Hallenbeck also said Hudson will hold a public hearing at 4 p.m. June 28 at City Hall about whether live chickens should be allowed in Hudson.
