Little chance of a white Christmas locally this year
H. Rose Schneider reports in the Times Union that there is little chance of a White Christmas locally this year. The forecast is warm and dry Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, according to Joe Villani, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Albany. He said, “It’s not looking good locally for a white Christmas.” Highs are forecast in the lower 40s and lows in the upper 20s Christmas Eve, and highs in the mid-40s and lows in the low-30s on Christmas Day. Villani said there was about an inch of snow on the ground the last two Christmas mornings, but the last truly white Christmas was in 2017, with about five inches of snow on the ground. It has also been very warm on Dec. 25 in 2020 and 2015, reaching 72 degrees in 2015. The snowiest Christmas recently was in 2002, with more than 19 inches of snow.
