Charlie Holmes is reporting in The Daily Mail after much planning and anticipation, the landmark Black Bridge in the village of Catskill is on the verge of a major restoration. The structure has eroded over time and was battered by the floods produced by Tropical Storm Irene. Following the storm, the entire substructure of the bridge was totally redone. "So now it’s time to focus on the top of the bridge,” said Catskill Village President Vincent Seeley, on Wed., Jan. 13. The historic pedestrian span will be widened a bit, lights added, and the bridge will be painted. The total estimated cost of the project is $2.8 million. The village's share of the bill is $560,000. The village board will now consult with its bank and bond counsel to work out the financing details.
