Nora Mishanec is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the attorney for Harold Handy, the victim of an alleged assault July 5 at a Kinderhook residence, called for a fair and unbiased investigation into the incident that occurred nearly three weeks ago. So far, no arrests have been made. Paul Freeman, with the Freeman Howard law firm in Hudson, said July 24, so-called insiders should not be subject to special treatment from the Columbia County Sheriff's Office during the course of its investigation into the assault. “It is Harold Handy’s hope and prayer that insiders do not get special treatment, and that justice will be served,” Freeman said. The statement marks the first time Handy's attorney has spoken publicly about the alleged assault, which occurred at the property owned by Kinderhook business owner Alex Rosenstrach, at 3193 County Rte. 21, where he lives with his wife, Kelly Briscoe Rosenstrach, a Columbia County Sheriff's Deputy. Handy is cooperating “in every way” with investigators, Freeman added. “Harold Handy was unquestionably the victim of a completely oppressive and avoidable series of criminal acts, and our firm is working directly with investigators and the District Attorney’s Office to provide any details necessary to bring those involved to justice,” Freeman said. Freeman did not provide any details on his client's physical condition. The attorney was retained to assist with both the criminal investigation and to pursue civil damages on behalf of Handy.
