Spend the day in the mountains on Saturday, June 5 with the Greene County Historical Society's 34th annual Tour of Homes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This year's tour, held in collaboration with the Town of Windham Historical Society, focuses on Windham. Tour sites are located in the hamlets of Windham, Hensonville and Maplecrest and extend into Mitchell Hollow, North Settlement, and the neighboring town of Ashland. Many sites are new to the tour, while several were featured 12 years ago when the tour was last held in this area. Windham has a long history serving as host to visitors from all over the world and that tradition continues today. Included are historic guest houses; a historic resort complex, once abandoned, now rejuvenated as an arts center; a historic barn now serving as a private home; several sites that capture life in this mountain community in the 1800s and more. Tour headquarters will be at the beautifully restored Centre Church Civic Center on Main Street in Windham. Street and lot parking are available. Picnic lunches will be for sale at headquarters as long as they last. The Town of Windham Historical Society will hold a raffle at headquarters, and copies of the newly published "Historic Places in Greene County" will be on sale. The tour will be held rain or shine. Tickets are $25 the day of the tour; $20 in advance. Participants will receive a packet of material about the sites along with a marked route map.
