WRGB-TV is reporting longtime Albany broadcaster Ernie Tetrault [TAY-troe] has died at the age of 94. Tetrault was born in Watervliet and grew up in Troy. He started his broadcasting career as a radio announcer at WTRY while in high school. After serving in the Naval Air Corps during World War II, he began his television career in 1951. Tetrault's first television show was called Hospitality House, followed by Home Fare, where he welcomed big-name guests like Jimmy Durante, Ginger Rogers, Groucho Marx, Debbie Reynolds and Ronald Reagan. Tetrault moved into the newsroom in the 1970s. He covered everything from political conventions to battlefields. He retired in 1993, after 42 years at WRGB.
