Beetles (10 a.m. to 12 p.m.) Take the Catskills Regional Invasive Species Partnership's new 'beetle buster' training and learn about the emerald ash borer, hemlock wooly adelgid and the Asian longhorned beetle. Trainings focus on one of the region's three least wanted forest pests and covers identification, signs and symptoms of the insect, how to report sightings, and how to manage infestations. Trainings last two hours and include a one hour presentation, and a 45 minute field survey component outdoors. Participants will learn how to use a GPS, and sign up to join the Beetle Busters listserv to receive breaking updates on forest pests throughout the region.

Emerald Ash Borer (12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.) Cornell Cooperative Extension of Columbia and Greene Counties and the Catskill Regional Invasive Species Program (CRISP) are hosting an Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) program, that will highlight new ranges, new management strategies and help interpret new regulations, as we deal with the ever-increasing EAB population. The purpose of this event is to update municipal officials, land managers, foresters, landowners and interested others. Speakers include Mark Whitmore, Cornell University’s Forest pathologist and Ethan Angel, from the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, as well as representatives from other regional organizations working on this issue and available to provide help. Free. To register, (518) 622-9820, ext. 0.
