Ghent teen achieves rank of Eagle Scout
Daniel Zuckerman is reporting in the Register-Star Daniel Trey Hotaling, 18, of Ghent, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout Sun., May 7, at a ceremony held at the Reformed Dutch Church of Claverack. Eagle Scout is the highest achievable rank in scouting. Hotaling earned the 12 required and nine elective merit badges, and served in troop leadership positions for 16 months. He completed a total of 325 different requirements for the Eagle Scout badge and is an avid outdoorsman who can camp, swim, hike, build a fire and identify poisonous plants. Only four percent of boys who participate in Boy Scouts achieve the Eagle Scout ranking. Nathan Gardner, the Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 121, praised Hotaling’s efforts and said he was dedicated to a variety of activities. “He’s great at what he does,” Gardner said. “He learns fast.” Read the full story in the Register-Star.
