Bill to buy Greene jail land passes State Senate
Jun 12, 2015 1:05 pm
The New York State Senate passed legislation (S.5120) June 10 that authorizes the New York State Office of General Services to transfer a parcel of approximately 50 acres on the Corrections and Community Supervision Campus in Coxsackie to Greene County for a new county jail. “This is a great win for Greene County,” said Greene County Sheriff Greg Seeley in a press release. “This land is the perfect location for a new jail. My responsibility as Sheriff is not only to look after the well-being of the public, but also to protect our tax dollars. This will allow us to move forward with the project and help alleviate a financial burden on the residents, and I can’t thank our state representatives enough for working with us.” In the senate, the bill was sponsored by Senator George Amedore; it now heads to the Assembly where it is sponsored by Pete Lopez.
