Hudson High enrollment the lowest 'ever'

Jeanette Wolfberg is reporting for The Columbia Paper on details of the September 17 meeting of the Hudson Board of Education, including news on high school electives, the district's declining enrollment and the first week of school. During a curriculum workshop, the board heard members of the high school faculty discuss available elective courses, as well as college courses made available for students under the auspices of SUNY Cobleskill. Some of the courses allow students to earn both high school and college credit. Outgoing Hudson High School Principal Antonio "Tiney" Abatable reported that enrollment at the high school is the lowest it has ever been. "You can feel it. There’s s noticeable difference in the hallways and cafeteria,” he said. Abitabile said the class schedules are running well, but "...maybe [that's] because we have so few students." Montgomery C. Smith Elementary School Principal Mark Brenneman reported his school had a “much smoother opening than last year," despite the presence of “a lot of new staff.” The curriculum this year focuses on science and the Breakfast with Dad program was a big success, he said.
