Amanda Purcell is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the number of arrests and vehicle and traffic tickets issued in the city of Hudson nearly doubled in 2018, according to statistics released by the Hudson Police Department. Hudson police issued 1,914 vehicle and traffic citations in 2018, compared to 975 in 2017. In 2017, city police investigated 52 violent crimes and 255 index crimes, such as homicide, forcible rape, robbery and burglary. Hudson police made 767 arrests in 2018, 40 more than the previous year. While felony arrests declined in 2018, misdemeanor arrests remain steady at 500 a year. Chief L. Edward Moore released the annual data on Jan. 28, during a meeting of the Hudson Common Council Police Committee meeting. Moore said parking tickets generate the most complaints. “Very rarely do I get a complaint about a moving violation — maybe a couple a year. I probably get about a dozen or so parking ticket complaints per year,” he said. Police receive the most complaints about speeding on Harry Howard and Worth avenues and Third Street. In December, the city installed a solar-powered radar speed sign on Harry Howard Avenue, which has a speed limit of 20 mph, to caution drivers to watch their speed. Moore said in the coming year he intends to continue to increase the use of bicycles and foot patrol. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
