Poll finds gender, party differences on virus

Steve Hughes is reporting for the Times Union women and Democrats are very concerned that they or another member of their household will come down with COVID-19, according to a recent Times Union — Siena College Research institute poll. More than 1,000 residents of the Capital Region were asked if they complied with public health guidelines for the novel coronavirus pandemic as well as their thoughts on what the future might look like. Overwhelming the majority said they are following recommendations, such as wearing a mask or sheltering at home. But 41 percent of women say they have completely sheltered at home, compared to 34 percent of men; 68 percent of women say they wash their hands every time they touch a surface or cough and sneeze, compared to 52 percent of men; and, 36 percent of women believe their local county should gradually end the NY Pause restrictions after May 15, compared to 48 percent of men. When it comes to lifting public health restrictions on business and social activity, Republicans favor quicker action and generally express less concern about future public health actions than Democrats.
