City of Schenectady ready to demolish 40 buildings

Michael DeMasi is reporting for the Albany Business Review nearly 40 vacant buildings will soon be demolished in the city of Schenectady's latest effort to eliminate run-down or dangerous homes and commercial buildings from city streets. The removal of 18 of the buildings will be paid for by the city, the Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority and Capital Region Land Bank; the demolition of 21 other structures will be funded by the Metroplex and The Community Builders, a nonprofit real estate developer. “Vacant, blighted zombie properties are not welcome in Schenectady County," Richard Ruzzo, chairman of the Land Bank and Schenectady County legislator, said in a prepared statement.
