No movement on state AG's Noble investigation

Ariél Zangla is reporting for the Daily Freeman almost five months after asking the state Attorney General's Office to investigate "potentially inappropriate and perhaps even illegal behavior" by Kingston Mayor Steve Noble and his wife, lawmakers said they have received no update on the matter. At the same time, Noble said he also has not been contacted by anyone from the state Attorney General's Office. "We have not received an update," Common Council President Andrea Shaut said in an email over the weekend when asked if she or other involved aldermen had received a response from the AG's Office. On July 10, Shaut, Common Council Majority Leader Reynolds Scott-Childress, Alderman Jeffrey Ventura Morell and Alderwoman Rita Worthington, issued a press release stating they had requested an investigation of the mayor and his wife, Julie Noble, for "potentially inappropriate and perhaps even illegal behavior." The four did not specify what the alleged wrongdoing was; Julie Noble works as the city's environmental education and sustainability coordinator. "I haven't heard anything of substance from the members of the Common Council on this matter since they made their vague and baseless accusations via press release back in July," Steve Noble said in an email December 7. "While that press release caused irreparable harm to my reputation, I have and will continue to work in partnership with all members of the Common Council to best serve the Kingston community." Noble declined to comment on behalf of his wife, noting that she is a civil service employee who should be contacted directly. The state Attorney General's Office has declined to comment publicly on the matter, even to confirm whether or not an investigation is being undertaken. Read the full story in the Daily Freeman.
